A place to record Grace's adoption story and share what is currently going on in our home and in my head.

She has a milder form of SB (meningocele) which required major surgery at one time, and could cause problems later on in life, but has required very little from us.
When we had our final homestudy on Tuesday our social worker told us that unfortunately she sees too many adoptions end in disruption. She feels that parents are going into adoptions hoping that everything will turn out perfect, and often times it doesn't.
We made the decision to adopt Grace no matter what we found her condition to be once we got to China. However, we also did our research. We knew that Chinese health records are often not entirely accurate. While her prognosis appeared to be very good, spina bifida can range from very minor symptoms to complete paralysis from the waist down, incontinence and several other issues.
We are grateful that Grace has been so healthy, but we believe that she would be every bit as much of a blessing to us had her special needs been more severe then they turned out to be.

32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. And this:
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”Or this:
Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.Or this:
Proverbs 28:27 Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.
Proverbs 31:9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. And finally:
Luke 14:33
In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
